Devil's Dyke is a beautiful National Trust location just a few miles from Brighton. The Dyke Valley is the UK's longest, deepest and widest valley - and it just so happens that a lovely country pub and restaurant is located at the very top spot.
Last Monday I went for a bit of pub lunch with my family, and I had a lovely afternoon. We arrived around lunchtime and was immediately impressed by the panoramic views across the South Downs. The views stretched across the villages of Poynings and Fulking, as well as over Hove, Brighton and out to the Isle of Wight in the distance! The sea looked amazing too as well as many forests and woods across the valley.
But feeling hungry we headed inside The Devil's Dyke for a drink and something to eat.
I chose an Old Mout cider (which I've been obsessed with in this gorgeous weather) and food-wise a steak and mushroom pie with chips and vegetables. Apologises for the very little photos of my food (very unlike me tbh - a blogger that forgot to photograph my food jheeze who am I?), but I was enjoying my food and catching up with my family. I did get a cheeky photo of my meal on my instagram story though and yes it was as delicious as it looks...
The food was amazing and we were luckily seated just by the window too which meant we had a wonderful view of the valley whilst eating and drinking.
After feeling stuffed after our meal we decided to go for a walk around Devil's Dyke. We didn't go for a large trek but it was lovely to go for a little walk around to look at the wonderful views, and we did find a viewing platform which is actually the remains of the funicular railway. A bit of Victorian engineering that took visitors down to the village of Poynings.
That's lots of other little points of interest dotted around the area highlighting parts of the locations history and also some beautiful scenes showcasing why it is protected by the National Trust.
Overall I had a lovely afternoon with my family and would recommend a visit to anyone. Such a beautiful place for a lunch, walk or to go for a picnic.
